Sweet Virginia

Wednesday, my parents and I left New Jersey to drive down to Georgia, where I got to college. On the way, we were scheduled to spend three days on a mini vacation in the south! We spent Wednesday and Thursday night in an adorable log cabin in West Virginia, and we spent Thursday hiking in the mountains!

Today my parents and I went to New River George National River. The national park runs along the New River, which is a beautiful, rugged, white water river that runs through deep mountain canyons. We spent the morning doing a three mile hike at Grandview, where we had spectacular overlook views of the river (1,400 feet below us!). We got to hike along beautiful, sheer limestone cliff faces and in forests of rhododendron. Afterwards, we ate a yummy picnic lunch before heading for the next site.

Along the river, we saw lot of lovely, run down farmsteads and tiny farms! We drove through a few adorable little towns on the way to the second hiking area.

In the afternoon, we visited the Sandstone Visitors Center before heading to The Sandstone Falls, the largest waterfall on the New River. The river and falls were absolutely stunning!
