Indian Creek Falls

On Monday, October 10th (my goodness, am I behind!) my dad and I headed to the deep creek area of Smoky Mountain National Park to hike the Indian Creek Falls trail.

This was the last day of our trip (for more, see here, here, and here). We saw beautiful waterfalls, and the weather was absolutely perfect!

After hiking the falls, we got into the car to head back to Atlanta. On the way, we stopped at a farm stand and ate lunch at Rabun Lake again. There were huge storm clouds, and the lake looked stunning! Aren't these old bridge supports eerily beautiful?

When we got back to Atlanta, my dad had a few hours before he needed to go to the airport, so we headed to Yeah! Burger, in the highlands. I got a delicious veggie burger with grilled onions, avocado slices, and sunflower pesto, and we split Texas caviar (cilantro, Mexican cheese, beans, onions, and tomato) and delicious, sugar dusted sweet potato fries. Yum!

Great Smoky Mountain National Park

Last Sunday, my dad and I headed into Great Smoky Mountain National Park to spend the day hiking the trails!

Our first stop was the visitor's center, where we got to walk through a sweet little "farm village", complete with live chickens and a garden!

We drove up to clingman's dome trail, where we hiked up to an observation deck where you could see tons of the park! It was windy, but totally worth it.

After that, we headed to the Tennessee side of the park, where we went to chimney top trail and hiked 1,200 feet up to the top of a mountain! There were waterfalls all over the trail, and the fall leaves were just stunning. Once we got to the top, you had to climb a sheer cliff face to get to the very top. I can't believe I actually made it up; eeek!

We ended the day driving through the adorable (and sometimes adorably tacky) nearby towns and going back to the cabin to cook dinner!

Cheddar and figs

While hiking around at Tullulah Gorge State Park, my dad and I stopped for lunch at a sweet little picnic spot on the edge of Lake Rabun. Lunch couldn't have been simpler or sweeter; cheddar cheese and fig sandwiches with some deliciously crisp fall apples.

Whole grain bread
Fresh figs, sliced
Sharp cheddar cheese

I'm sure these would taste absolutely delicious heated up in the oven for a few minutes, as well!

Last Saturday, after hiking in the morning (see post here), my dad and I finished our scenic drive to our little weekend cabin in Whittier, North Carolina. The cabin and nearby town really couldn't have been more adorable!
