London: Regent's Park

The weather in London has been so lovely the past few days; chilly, but mostly sunny! I can't believe how lucky we've gotten. We've taken advantage of the wonderful weather to to visit Regent's Park and adventure around the city as much as possible!

On Friday, I met with my mentor professor in the biology department, got my student ID, and went on a tour of the UCL campus. Hayley, Sheneka, Kyle (a girl we met at orientation) and I grabbed a delicious lunch at Pod, which has "healthy and seasonal" foods. I got a delicious avocado, sunblush tomato, and hummus wrap, which I basically devoured in three minutes.

That night, the four of us headed to the studio of “That Sunday Night Show” to see Dan Stevens (from Downton Abby) and Gemma Collins (The Only Way is Essex) and Ross Noble be featured on the show! I’ve never seen a show filmed before, and the process was fascinating.

On Saturday morning, I headed to Regent’s Park with a bunch of other Emory students. We saw the Avenue Gardens, Queen Mary’s Gardens, walked around the boating lake (there were a ton of ducks!). The flowers were lovely, and the weather was gorgeous (but chilly!)

After walking through Regent’s we headed to nearby Primrose Hill! It’s a park with a massive hill in the middle of it, and when we walked up we could see the entire city! After getting lunch at a nearby grocery store, ate bread, cheese, and fruit on the hill. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect setting.

After eating, we headed back to Regent’s Park to see the Winter Gardens, and then we walked along the road to see the London Central Mosque and the London Business School. We also took a quick detour onto Baker Street to see the Sherlock Holmes Museum (we only visited the bookshop, but it was super cool!).

On our way back to our dorms we visited St. Marylebone Church, which was built in 1817 and was absolutely beautiful! I just love the fact that everywhere you look in London there is so much beauty and history.

We finished up the night with some fantastic food at Ragam Indian Resturant (I got veggie kurma), and a trip to Jetlag Sports Bar (where they played American football on the TV!) for Hayley’s twenty-first birthday. We even managed to wrangle up some cupcakes and candles for the surprise at the bar, and it was a blast!
