England: Canterbury II

Here's the rest of the pictures from my Canterbury trip on Saturday. It was so fun to explore the little town with friends and see all of the history!

After seeing the inside of the Canterbury Cathedral, Wen, Shiva, Yilong and I wandered around the cathedral grounds. There was a lovely walled garden and beautiful ruins, and it was nice to see more of the church from the outside.

We nabbed lunch at Pret A Manger, a popular food chain in the UK. It reminds me a little of the US chain Panera and you can literally find them all over London. I got a wonderful sweet potato and lentil curry soup and an almond croissant!

When we were done eating and warming up we checked out St. Augustine's Abbey. We didn't pay to see the site, but we still got a really nice view from outside!

We spent a lot of time wandering around the city, checking out the shops and the old buildings (we even visited an army surplus store, which I think the guys loved!).

Late in the day we went to Canterbury Norman Castle, a beautiful old ruin. We even got to climb up some ancient (refurbished) stairs and get a vew from the top!

We wandered around some more and then headed to Dane John Gardens. There is a huge hill in the middle of the garden (with a monument commemorating the man who donated the garden to the people of Canterbury), and we could see the whole town from there. We were lucky enough to arrive at dusk, so we saw the sun go down from the park!

We ended our day by going to Evensong at Canterbury Cathedral and grabbing dinner at Wagamama (a Japanese inspired chain which was decent but a bit pricey) before catching the bus back to London!

What are your weekend plans? I'm heading on a bus to Paris (yay long rides!) and I absolutely can not wait.
