A few months ago my parents booked a flight out to see me in Portland and I've been eagerly counting down the days until they arrived! On Friday they flew into Seattle's airport and Hannah and I took Amtrack up to meet them. We spent a wonderful weekend visiting family and traveling around Washington, and I'm enjoying a week with them in Portland right now!
Our ride up on Amtrack was beautiful--we passed by a lot of water, and the landscape was incredibly green from all of the rain we've been getting the past week. We ended up arriving in Seattle a little before they did, so we met my Uncle at the building where he works and he took us out for delicious Thai food before pointing us in the direction of Pike Place Market. On the way there we got a little sidetracked and ended up at the Seattle "Great Wheel", a giant ferris wheel along the waterfront! I felt super touristy, but it was actually a ton of fun and we got some great views of the city and the Puget Sound! Afterwards we poked around World Spice and headed to Pike Place Market.
Since it was Hannah's first time in Seattle we visited the infamous gum wall, watched them throw fish at the Market, and wandered around the stalls looking at what was for sale. I wish I could have gotten flowers while I was there--I can never get over how cheap and beautiful they are! We also grabbed a strawberry mango smoothie and looked inside the "original Starbucks" before meeting up with my parents! We all ended up walking around the market again together and then headed down the road to check out a nearby park with a nice view of the waterfront before driving to the Space Needle. While there we wandered around the Experience Music Project building (which is crazy cool), creeped on the Space Needle from below, and went to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibit. The exhibit wasn't cheap but it was probably one of my favorite things we did all day--his work is so inspiring and beautiful! My favorite part was the outdoor garden, where you could see the Space Needle reflected in the glass spheres. That man has some serious talent.
We ended our day in Seattle with a quick ride on my Uncle's boat and a delicious dinner with my aunt, uncle, cousins, and cousin-in-law (who is currently living in Seattle for a medical school rotation)! It was seriously such a fun day.
Stay tuned for more on our weekend adventures. Also, I promise I haven't forgotten about the giveaway! I'll be announcing a winner in a few days!
